A wool pad is part of the polishing system. If fiber length, density, or distribution varies across the face, contact and cutting force also vary. That inconsistency can increase vibration and secondary marks.
Three quality controls
- Dense fiber placement: lower void space supports more stable and durable contact.
- Uniform cutting: consistent wool length helps distribute cutting action and improve finishing behavior.
- Fiber selection: graded natural wool reduces the influence of unsuitable coarse fibers.
Dynamic balance
Andrew Rose states that each UCT pad is dynamically balanced with weight variation controlled within ±5 g. Better balance is intended to reduce machine vibration and improve control during longer polishing sessions.
Short and long wool
The short-wool pad concentrates cutting action for correction and efficient finishing. The long-wool pad provides more cushioning, heat management, and conformity on curved panels. Machine, compound, paint condition, technique, and pad maintenance still determine the final result.
